In September-October, Ukraine exported more than 6.3 thousand tons of late varieties of potatoes, which is 15 times higher than in the same period of 2017, according to EastFruit.

Ukraine had the lowest purchase prices among neighbouring countries, analysts explain this breakthrough. In wholesale, high-quality potatoes can be bought in Ukraine at $ 0.13/kg, whereas in Moldova it is $ 0.21/kg, in Georgia — $ 0.19/kg.

By the way, a significant amount of export went to Moldova, it bought a lot of washed and packaged early potatoes. The product was also shipped to Georgia and Belarus. At the same time, in the domestic market of Ukraine, such potatoes are bought weakly.

Since May, Ukraine has already exported 11 thousand tons of potatoes, which is also higher than last year’s figure for the same period by 3.4%.

In Ukraine, the processing and packaging of potatoes are developing well, experts say another argument explaining the growth of potato exports.

As we wrote earlier, in Ukraine potatoes are harvested in a surplus, twice or three more than is needed for domestic consumption. But many potato growers did not produce good quality and are trying to sell products as quickly as possible, and their prices have fallen.
