Ukraine in four years increased the export of honey to Japan 5 times. If in 2014 in this country was supplied only 19 tons of sweet product, then by the end of 2017 there are 96 tons, writes.

At the same time, Japanese companies continue to negotiate to increase the supply of Ukrainian honey.

Because of quality problems, and sometimes falsification of Chinese products, Ukrainian honey came there at the right time, says Andrei Bazhin, vice president of international affairs “The Union of Beekeepers of Ukraine.”

He notes that the Japanese are ready to buy our products more expensive than the US or the EU, but their requirements are much more strict. Especially the safety requirements.

Vladimir Ruban, the director of the “Askania-Pak” company, which managed to arrange the supply of honey to Japan, says that the exporting company and its facilities should be certified with one of the international food safety standards.

In addition, the exporter must be registered with the state agency, which controls the import of food and medicine to Japan. In Ukraine, such a company should also have permission to export honey to Japan.

It is important for Japanese producers to get acquainted directly with beekeepers. This is a feature of business culture. Moreover, they do not start working with the supplier without conducting their own independent audit.

There is another hitch, it is impossible to verify the honey lot for compliance with the requirements of Japanese legislation by the existing Ukrainian laboratories. “This will be possible only in cooperation with leading European laboratories,” Ruban said.

He draws attention to the taste preferences of the Japanese. They like a packaged and exceptionally liquid product. Most often, light, transparent.

A mix of rapeseed and acacia honey is popular in Japan. And if the label indicates that it is natural, then the product will be even more valued.
