Emissions of harmful substances at the plant “Crimean Titan”, which is located in the north of the peninsula, in Armyansk, led the farms in the Crimea and in the Kherson region to losses, according to “Krym. Realii.”

Abdureshit Jepparov, an interlocutor of the publication and Crimean human rights activist who visited Armiansk, said that the most affected were vegetables and vineyards, the leaves of which were burned by acid emissions.

The farmers of the Kherson region also report losses. According to Mykola Halupenko, head of the association of farmers in the Kherson region, local farmers also lost a harvest of vegetables. Cereals were almost harvested, but, as for sunflower, is not yet clear in what condition it is. In addition, all metal equipment on farms began to rust.

According to him, in Kalanchatsky district a farmer complained that all agricultural machinery, even in the garage, was covered with rust.

The farmers of the Chaplynsky district in the Kherson region do not yet state their losses, therefore Khalupenko admits that there are no more losses. He believes that this may be due to the successful direction of the wind after the emission.

We recall, the emission of an unknown substance occurred at the plant “Crimean Titan” at night from 23 to 24 August. As representatives of the Crimean authorities have declared, the emission occurred because of heat and a long absence of precipitation. According to research, the cause of contamination is the evaporation of the contents of the acid storage.

At the beginning of the year, The Ministry for Temporary Occupied Territories and internally displaced residents of Ukraine informed that “Crimean Titan” was a threat to the ecology and health of the inhabitants of the Crimea and the Kherson region.

The plant was founded in 1971, in the 2000s it became part of Groop DF, owned by the oligarch Dmitry Firtash. In 2014, after the annexation of the Crimea, Firtash changed the management structure of the enterprise. In October, the plant was transferred to the Russian subsidiary of Groop DF, LLC “Titanium Investments”.

The company is engaged in the production of titanium dioxide, a substance for paint and varnish, rubber industry, plastics, etc.
