Low prices for “industrial” apples, which go to the production of juices, are fully justified, says Andriy Yarmak, an economist at FAO’s analytical department. He told about this today at a conference in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Info-Shuvar reports.

According to the expert, in the future, this segment will be reduced, and the prices for industrial apples will only decrease. And it’s not surprising, because the demand for reconstituted juices, which are made from apple concentrate, falls every year.

“Over the past 6 years, the apple concentrate market has declined by almost 40%. Of course, this also affected Ukraine, we gradually and confidently reduce its exports”, says Yarmak.

In the world, the reconstituted juices are actually already equated to “unhealthy” sweet fizzy drinks. More and more often they are replaced by vegetable juices and drinking yogurts. “The reconstituted juice has already dropped to the category of cheap products and for its production, cheap raw materials will be needed,” the specialist notes.

Ukrainian farmers still pay a lot of attention to sales of industrial apples, but de facto these fruits are a waste of production. The manufacturer must do everything to make the amount of these apples as small as possible.

After all, if somewhere you can earn in apple production, then only on sales of fruits of premium quality.

By the way, this year in Ukraine and the EU, there are critically low prices for industrial apples, 0.04-0.05 $/kg. This greatly angered the producers of Poland and Ukraine, such a price would not allow them to even compensate for cleaning costs, which have grown substantially over the past 3 years.

At the same time, processors are confident that the price of raw materials will not change significantly this season because the demand for concentrate in the EU countries is still quite low, European juice factories have large stocks of concentrate since last season.
